Herb Decoction Making
You can drink herb decoctions to get the amazing medicinal benefits of herbs. Herb decoctions are very strong and may not taste that great but you can really benefit from the healing or rejuvenating properties of the specific herb that you use. Decoctions are the boiled extract of the roots, seeds, stems and bark of the an herb plant.
The most commonly used herbs for decoctions are fennel seeds and ginger root. The proportion for strong herb decoctions is half an ounce of plant parts for every cup of water. Double the amount of water used to make weak herb decoctions. Peel the herb part if needed and chop it up until it is granular in size.
Add the correct proportionate measure of the herb into a non-metal large pot that contains the appropriate water measurement. To make the herb decoction, heat the herb and water mixture. When you see a few bubbles rise to the top of the water, reduce the heat and simmer the mixture, uncovered, for 45 minutes.
The liquid will reduce in volume. If you are combining roots with other herb parts, boil the root parts first and then add in the other parts when after roots have been boiling for least 15 minutes. Strain and allow to cool slightly before drinking.
